Julia Souder Talks LDES On The Zenergy Podcast

Julia Souder joins the Zenergy Podcast with Karan Takhar to discuss why she’s so passionate about LDES technologies and their crucial role in the global energy transition.

The Zenergy Podcast is a deep-dive podcast that explores hot-button climate conversations with

Global leaders are featuring key players in the renewable energy and electric vehicle industries.

“The tipping point has come to demonstrate the need is there,” Souder commented. “We just need to start scaling this.”

Much has changed over the last five years. Countries around the world are continuing to hit their net-zero goals with stride. The surge of innovations has brought about a revival of renewable technologies.

With this newfound abundance of renewable energy, the need for LDES increases. Souder expressed the importance of LDES and affirmed that storage is critical for renewables for 24/7 use.

“It’s wasteful if we can’t use it the time that we need it.” said Souder.

More importantly, LDES provides beneficial cost-saving benefits and adaptability to meet diverse energy needs.

LDES can provide estimated cost savings between USD 50-$100 per MW hour. LDES is already providing sector savings of around USD 540 billion annually.

Souder later addressed the beneficial ‘optionality’ LDES possessed to adapt to various industries, geographies, and communities.

“What’s important is that there’s no one size fits all. There’s no silver bullet. We have to have this diversity of storage to meet the different geographies around the world.”

LDES technologies have been incorporated in various industries and geographical locations, from Australian Mining to Isolated Islands in the United States.
