LDES Council Adds Five Members as Global Market Development Expands
- Amazon, EnergyIntel, ExxonMobil, TechnipFMC and XL Batteries joining as new members
- Expansion signals growing prospects for increased adoption of LDES technologies to support strengthened grid reliability and the decarbonisation of energy systems
Brussels, 9 Jan. – The Long Duration Energy Storage Council is pleased to announce the addition of five new members as the global marketplace continues to expand for LDES technologies.
Amazon and ExxonMobil have joined as anchor members, and EnergyIntel, TechnipFMC and XL Batteries have joined as new technology members.
The LDES Council is a global non-profit organization that seeks to accelerate the global decarbonisation of energy systems by ensuring that the value of LDES technologies is recognised and compensated. The LDES Council, with more than 60 members in 22 countries, provides member-driven, fact-based guidance and research on LDES, which represents a USD $4 trillion market. LDES Council members represent the entire LDES global energy value chain – disruptive technology companies, innovative renewable energy companies, forward-looking equipment providers, utilities, investors, and end-users.
Market development for LDES technologies continues to expand globally, supported by several policy interventions by national and regional governments to spur deployment and scaling. [Last month], dozens of global governments committed to a global energy storage pledge that calls for 1,500 gigawatts of new capacity to come online by 2030. The announcement, made at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), helps build the foundation for additional energy storage deployment commitments to be made as part of national climate action plans to be issued in early 2025.
“2024 was a transformative year for the LDES marketplace, highlighted by new commitments by global governments to invest in the rapid deployment and scaling of these transformative technologies,” Chief Executive Officer Julia Souder said. “We’re thrilled to welcome our newest members and benefit from their diverse perspectives and expertise. Together, the LDES Council and its members are strengthening our collective impact and helping to guide the advancement of the clean energy transition.”
