LDES Council Welcomes Shubhra Thakur as India Director

Brussels, 6 March – The Long Duration Energy Storage Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Shubhra Thakur as its new India Director. In this role, Thakur will lead efforts to accelerate the adoption of long duration energy storage (LDES) solutions across India and South Asia, a region critical to the global energy transition.

“I am honoured to join the LDES Council and contribute to its mission of advancing affordable, reliable, and secure energy solutions,” said Thakur. “India’s rapid growth and ambitious renewable energy targets make it a key market for LDES deployment. I look forward to work with the LDES Council and partners across the region to drive innovation, foster collaboration, and unlock the immense potential of LDES technologies in India and the wider region.”

Previously, Thakur led corporate affairs at ReNew and led policy and government affairs at various global health sector organizations. She was also a consultant for the Election Commission of India, where she developed strategies for the Voter Education Program (SVEEP) aimed at enhancing voter information, education, and electoral participation across India.

“Shubhra’s expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we expand our efforts to advance LDES deployments in India and across South Asia,” Julia Souder, CEO of the LDES Council, said. “This appointment underscores our commitment to advancing LDES technologies in emerging markets and building a sustainable and resilient energy future.”

As one of the world’s fastest-growing energy markets, India aims to achieve 500 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030. LDES technologies are essential to integrating the variable nature of renewable energy and ensuring grid stability, making India a pivotal market for scaling these solutions. The LDES Council continues to work closely with governments, industry leaders, and civil society to drive policy innovation, investment, and public awareness on the benefits of LDES solutions.

An Executive MBA graduate in Strategy and Marketing from Delhi University, Thakur is also a recipient of the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women scholarship.
